Since 2019, we have also been involved at the Regensburg site. Here, we have delivered the same high-quality standards in the form of a PW generation system as well as a WFI generation system, including WFI storage and distribution. Our collaboration consists of turnkey projects with pharmaceutical-grade qualification and documentation, ensuring a structured and compliant project execution.

Allergopharma – Specialist in Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT)

Allergopharma specializes in subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and is the market leader in this field in Germany. The company offers a broad range of high-dose, hypoallergenic preparations, known as allergoids, for SCIT. Additionally, its portfolio includes a wide selection of allergens for diagnostic purposes.

Tender Criteria

When tendering for the purified media systems for its new production facility, Allergopharma emphasized the importance of obtaining all required systems from a single source. This included a new pure steam generator, WFI generation and storage, as well as AP generation and storage, all integrated into a unified system and control concept.

Implementation

During the tender and awarding phase, the responsible Technical Support department—covering process systems, purified media supply, ventilation technology, building management, and the organization of maintenance and calibration—led by Mr. Meinke, was presented with a comprehensive concept and the dedicated project team responsible for implementation. The previously installed systems and automation from our other projects ultimately convinced Allergopharma.

Further key factors in the collaboration were the seamless integration of design, automation, commissioning, and qualification—all from a single source. As a result, the systems were delivered and commissioned on schedule.

Wirtschaftsgenossenschaft Deutscher Tierärzte – A Leading Name in the German Veterinary Pharmaceutical Market

The Wirtschaftsgenossenschaft Deutscher Tierärzte (WDT) is one of the leading companies in the German veterinary pharmaceutical market, with a presence in over 95% of veterinary practices. With an impressive 114-year company history, WDT’s 280 employees produce essential products for veterinary clinics today.

Tender Process

As early as 2002, we successfully implemented PW and RD generation systems, including distribution, at the Garbsen site. One of the key challenges at this location was the limited available space, requiring a customized system design. The tailored PW generation system, including storage and distribution, along with the combination system for the simultaneous production of pure steam and WFI—complete with storage and distribution—was implemented on schedule with optimized processes.

Growth

With WDT’s business growth came an increased demand for production capacity, requiring an expansion of the water treatment systems. WDT chose to rely once again on our proven quality. Today, more than 7,100 veterinary practice owners benefit from the high quality of WDT’s proprietary preparations.

Excella GmbH & Co. KG – High-Quality Contract Manufacturing in the Pharmaceutical Industry

Excella GmbH & Co. KG (formerly Heumann PCS GmbH) operates as a contract manufacturer with 400 employees, producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and finished pharmaceutical products. To remain competitive in the pharmaceutical contract manufacturing market, maintaining consistently high quality at competitive prices is essential.

“In the field of active pharmaceutical ingredients, we have observed a growing trend toward increasingly potent substances while simultaneously dealing with smaller demand volumes,” says Klaus Eichelsdörfer, Excella GmbH.

Project Requirements

For the procurement of purified media systems for various new production areas, as well as replacement investments, Excella GmbH & Co. KG placed great importance on obtaining all new and reinvestment solutions for pharmaceutical water production from a single source. In recent years, this has included two new HPW generation systems, each with its own storage and distribution system, a new PW generation system with storage and distribution for quality control, and, in 2021, a new PW generation system with an associated storage and distribution system as a replacement investment.

Implementation

During the tendering and awarding phase, the responsible Technical Support department for process systems and purified media supply was presented with a comprehensive concept and the project manager responsible for implementation. The previously installed systems and automation from Wilhelm Werner GmbH successfully met all of Excella GmbH & Co. KG’s requirements.

Additional key factors for the collaboration included the seamless integration of design, manufacturing, and automation, as well as commissioning and qualification—all from a single source.

SiCrystal – A Global Leader in Monocrystalline Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Wafers

SiCrystal is one of the global market leaders in monocrystalline silicon carbide semiconductor wafers. These highly specialized products form the foundation for the production of innovative electronic components used by key customers worldwide. Silicon carbide wafers are precision-engineered discs with a thickness of 350 micrometers (approximately 1/3 of a millimeter) and a typical diameter of 150 millimeters. These wafers must meet extremely stringent specifications defined by customers and require highly sensitive manufacturing equipment.

Project Requirements

In 2011, a high-purity water system was sought for the Nürnberg facility to supply the wet processes in SiCrystal GmbH’s newly established production. The system design and parameter specifications were developed in close collaboration with the engineering firm responsible for planning, the wet process users at SiCrystal GmbH, and Wilhelm Werner GmbH at the time. In addition to general requirements, such as a specific resistivity of 18.2 MΩ·cm, the system needed to ensure single-digit ppt values (< 0.005 µg/L) for anions and cations.

Implementation

The required capacities were specified in collaboration with the project team to supply three sub-loops. The high-purity water system consists of a makeup system with a production capacity of 4 m³/h, based on a softening system, reverse osmosis, and CEDI. The resulting demineralized water, with a conductivity of < 0.2 µS/cm, is fed into a buffer tank with a usable volume of 20 m³.

To prevent contamination, the tank was constructed from natural PP and is sealed from the atmosphere using a sterile filter and CO₂ adsorber. Two redundant circulation pumps supply the demineralized water through two parallel UV oxidation units into the polishing system. The final polishing stage occurs via two serially connected ultrapure resin cartridges before the water is filtered at 0.20 µm and distributed into the three loops at a flow rate of 9 m³/h.

Siemens Energy Global – Advancing Hydrogen Electrolysis Systems

Siemens Energy Global is an established manufacturer and operator of hydrogen electrolysis systems. As the energy carrier of the future, hydrogen is used as an environmentally friendly fuel for fuel cell vehicles and industrial operations, as well as a raw material in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally, hydrogen can be injected into the natural gas grid, where it can be utilized for heating purposes and power generation. Siemens Energy Global has embraced this challenge and initiated numerous projects to drive innovation in this field.

Project Requirements

The water treatment systems required for electrolysis were developed according to Siemens’ specific customer requirements and manufactured as modular units by Wilhelm Werner GmbH on a project-specific basis.

Implementation

The central pre-treatment system consists of a complete demineralization stage, including ion exchange softening, reverse osmosis, membrane degassing, and continuous electrodeionization. The capacity of these demineralization systems ranges from 200 l/h to 1,200 l/h.

In a centralized process water recycling system, the hot water returning from electrolysis is degassed in a hydrogen separator and demineralized using specialized ion exchange processes. All process-relevant operating parameters and system statuses are monitored via programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and displayed graphically. Through an Ethernet interface, all process data is transmitted to central control systems for seamless integration and monitoring.
